Your Temple Body
Self-mastery and the gift of sexual holiness
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” -1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Your body is the temple, His Spirit dwells within you, don’t denigrate that sacred space by joining in immoral acts in the courts of such a holy place.
The pagans would visit temple prostiutes as part of their worship. Paul pulls from this horrible practice to rebuke the Corinthian Christians who still haven’t fully embraced the truth of their union with Jesus through the Spirit of God within them.
He’s speaking their language, connecting their own actions, culture or past lives with a deep and meaningful new way of seeing themselves and their bodies.
Real sexual freedom comes when we take back the stewardship of the gift of our inner lives and bodies through which we express that reality.
Who and whose we are is proclaimed by how we choose to use our bodies.
You are a sacred dwelling of a Holy God and the courts and inner chambers of your body and being proclaim the glory of His beauty and goodness.
Do not desecrate, instead declare the purity and power of a woman or man who worships God in the holiness of a self-mastered life.
