Perfume Prophecies
Flirtations of Flowers
The fragrance of Lilacs is a short lived delight. They only bloom for a short while and then you have to wait another whole year.
“Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing” - part of Ezekiel’s vision in chapter 47 of his book.
Ezekiel’s healing river vision tells us that many of our longings actually hint to a truer reality. We will fully behold what we only glimpse now. We will be able to feast, where now we nibble. We are meant for more.
Yet, the short lived indulgence is not a betrayal of desire but an igniter of it. All of creation is teasing us with pleasure. We are being flirted with through the most promising allurements.
All this beauty is given to awaken us from our safe and sterile consumption of mediocrity and mundanity. We were created for the glory of Eden and she still echoes to us through her earthly progeny.
When I stand here before the soft and fragrant lavender of this earthly altar of heavenly inspired scents, I worship. I inhale the promises of all these perfumed prophecies and joy reminds me of more yet to come.

Amen. Interesting we don't think in these terms more, theology tends to be forgotten in the food aisles.
Hard to walk the talk in the food aisles.
